Q&A About Hay Creek Companies Hardwood Mulch

Q: Is there pine or softwood in the landscape mulch?

A: No. Our mulch is 100% virgin hardwood. Our mulch is also double shredded, which helps mitigate displacement from wash out or high winds.

Q: But don’t you recyle pallets and scrap wood?

A: Yes, we do, but that is used for our other products: animal bedding and wood heat pellets. Many suppliers use scrap material in in their landscape mulch, but Hay Creek mulch is made from new wood.

Q: How do you store the bulk mulch before a customer purchases it?

Our mulch is always placed on a hard surface not on soft ground. This means clean mulch for our distributors and their customers. We make our mulch fresh every spring and only under ideal conditions, no leftovers.

Q: How do you color the mulch? Is it safe for family and pets?

A: We color our mulch using the best dye on the market (Colorbiotics). This colorant is safe for the environment testing lower in toxicity than table salt and baking soda.

Q: How does the color hold up?

A: We use the prescribed amount of dye, applying 3 to 3.5 lbs per yard. With a very price-sensitive product like mulch, the natural inclination is to cut corners, but we don’t.

Q: How long does an order take?

A: We manufacture our own mulch, controlling our inventory and product consistency. This also allows us to offer this premium mulch at the best price possible.

Q: How long does transporation take?

A: We own our own trucking company, which means we are both the mulch manufacturer and the transporter of the product. This allows us short lead times (often the same day).
